Why Should I Take Lessons at Tailwind Flight Center?
Tailwind Flight Center is the finest flight school in Appleton. Our staff of highly qualified instructors meet the hightest standards and are dedicated to providing you with the best possible flight instruction. Tailwind Flight Center also takes pride in our aircraft. They are always hangared and kept neat and clean for your use.

What do I need to get started?
You will need a copy of your birth certificate and a photo ID or a copy of your passport to begin taking lessons. We also recommend attaining your flight physical as soon as possible to ensure there are no medical issues. Once you have those you are ready to begin flying.

How quickly can I obtain my private pilot certificate?
That will depend on your schedule and how often you can fly. If you are able to fly 2 to 3 times per week you should be able to finish your training in 4 to 5 months.

How many lessons per week should I schedule?
Ideally you should schedule 2 to 3 lessons per week. This allows you to stay current in your skills and keep pace to finish your license in 4 to 5 months. If 2 to 3 times per week is not possible we will work around your schedule to ensure you get the most out of your flight training.

How does the ground school work?
The ground school is designed to be a combination of self study and instructor guidance. The ground school material is designed for you to work on at home at your leisure. Our instructors are available for one on one discussion about any of the material in your text books. This saves the customer money and provides for flexibility. The ground school materials consist of text books and practice tests to help you learn the material.

How do I schedule an airplane?
Tailwind Flight Center has an online scheduling service that allows our students and renters to access the schedule from any internet enabled computer. You can view the availability of the aircraft and instructors and then reserve an airplane for a time slot that suits you.

Can I fly with a different instructor?
We try to arrange it so that you have the same instructor from start to finish. There may be times during your training where your instructor will arrange for you to fly with another instructor as a second opinion or to keep you on schedule. If you would like to change instructors during training that can also be arranged.

After I get my private pilot certificate can I rent an airplane?
Yes you can rent the aircraft after your training is complete. Once you have attained your private pilot license you will be qualified to rent the aircraft on your own.

How do I get checked our in the other aircraft?
You would schedule an appointment with an instructor who will go over the systems of the aircraft and any differences that exist between the two aircraft. You will then take a flight to ensure you are familiar with the new aircraft.

Can I take an airplane overnight on a long trip?
Yes, we do allow the aircraft to be taken overnight on trips. We approve the trips on an individual basis depending on the destination and the number of days you expect to be gone. A daily minimum of billable flight time may apply.
