Tailwind Flight Center- ATW gains FAA Part 141 Private Pilot Training Approval

Tailwind Flight Center is proud to announce that we have completed the challenging application and approval process and are now certified to offer an FAA Approved Part 141 Private Pilot Training Program. The FAA approved training curriculum allows students to take advantage of a fully structured and integrated training program that is individually reviewed and approved by the FAA. While very few flight schools offer this program, it is now available at Tailwind Flight Center at the Outagamie County Regional Airport in Appleton, Wisconsin.

In approving the Part 141 Program, the FAA mandates a very rigid and detailed training syllabus as well as operating and safety procedures. All of this helps to insure an efficient and effective student experience. It also allows for lower training and flying time requirements compared to a non-approved school.

Additionally, Veterans Benefits may apply to flight training. It also opens the door to major growth opportunities with foreign student training possibilities.

By combining our new Part 141 Program with our four year degree program through highly regarded Utah Valley University allows Tailwind Flight Center to satisfy virtually any primary flight training needs, from the individual seeking a Private Pilot Certificate to a student seeking an aviation career with a four year degree.

Matthew Cumberland has been named the Chief Flight Instructor and Parker Brooks has been named the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor.

Private Pilot Ground School in ATW?

Does anybody have an interest in attending a private pilot ground school at our Appleton location? If so, please give us your info below and we will let you know if we do this or not.

Tentative Information:

10 Weeks

Wednesdays starting January 9

Course Cost- $300, which includes all study materials

Completion of course gets you a sign off for the private pilot written test

VFR Refresher Clinic

Tailwind Flight Center will be hosting a VFR-Refresher Clinic! This is great program that helps all pilots to brush up and review on VFR operating procedures and regulations. Enjoy a complete VFR refresher PowerPoint presentation while learning with fellow pilots from the area. This clinic will also count toward the ground portion of a BFR if the BFR is completed with a Tailwind Flight Instructor.

EAA News – Former Young Eagle Helps Deliver Skylanes to Afghanistan

September 16, 2011 – Carl Gustafson is a First Officer with Jet Blue Airways based out of Long Beach, California, a volunteer at Flabob Airport, Riverside, California, and a former Young Eagle. Until recently, perhaps his most significant flight was bringing a JetBlue Embraer E190 into EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in 2008. But this past week Gustafson, 31, and two other pilots ferried three brand new Cessna T182T Turbo Skylanes halfway around the world to Shindand, Afghanistan.

The ATC Privatization Debate?

NextGen air traffic control improvements are championed by government officials, but one former government official argued through an editorial this week that ATC may fare better in private hands. According to Peter Orszag, former director of the Office of Management and Budget, NextGen is “a step in the right direction.” But because it’s being rolled out in stages, he argues it will take too long to implement. The former director cites Canada’s nonprofit corporation NAV Canada and says the answer to a better air traffic system in the U.S. is the private sector. And user fees. Not everyone agrees.

This debate is an ongoing struggle. Thoughts of calling ATC and having to give a credit card number prior to being able to obtain a clearance seem absurd. Would we experience the same screaching halt we saw with the change of FSS while in the air with a change like this? What are your thoughts?

C47 “Southern Cross” Coming to Tailwind during EAA – Airventure 2011!

Ever wanted to fly in a WWII era aircraft? Now is your chance. The C47 “Southern Cross” will be at Tailwind Flight Center’s Appleton location (KATW) during EAA – Airventure 2011. Rides will be offered Tuesday, July 26th through Thursday, July28th. One half hour experiences available for $45/person and one hour experiences available for $95/person. Veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam can ride for free during this time. Seating is on a first come – first serve basis with three (3) veteran rides available per flight.
