ASHWAUBENON — Despite a fear of heights, 11-year-old Joey Blaser braved the skies and flew in his first airplane as part of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Aviation Student Training Experience.

“I want to see people yay big,” said Blaser prior to the flight.

Eighteen students gathered Friday at the Tailwind Flight Center at Austin Straubel International Airport to learn about flying an aircraft, pilot training, weather conditions and career opportunities within aviation. To top off the day, students were able test what they learned by flying an aircraft, led by flight instructor Sherwood “Woody” Williams.

What a great day for these kids as well as the fligh instructors at Tailwind. I had the great opportuity to fly these young men and women last Friday, June 17th 2011. Keep an eye on James in the picture above. He will be a “Top Gun” pilot someday! Great flying with you James! Check out the entire article by following the link. Want to learn more?
